Terrafame Ltd. concludes cooperation negotations
Multi-metal company Terrafame Ltd. has concluded cooperation negotiations which the company began with all personnel groups in the beginning of September. The negotiations between the company and the personnel were aimed at finding a solution for adapting personnel resources to better match the needs of the last stage of the ramp-up of operations. The current objective is to stabilise operations and to complete the ramp-up as cost-efficiently as possible.
The cooperation negotiations were concluded on 16 October 2017. As a result, Terrafame will cut a total of 47 jobs, of which 37 are redundancies, due to production and financial reasons as well as the reorganisation of operations. Approximately a third of the jobs will be cut from metals recovery, and two thirds will be cut evenly from maintenance, bioleaching, water management and support functions. The affected personnel will be offered support for the change and for finding new employment.
During the strongest ramp-up stage, Terrafame has employed more than 1,300 people working for the company and partner companies at the mining site. Currently, Terrafame has approximately 660 permanent employees. In addition to direct employment, Terrafame’s operations have significant employment impacts in Kainuu and more broadly in Finland as well.
