Terrafame to improve efficiency after the ramp-up has stabilised
Multi-metal company Terrafame Ltd. has continued the systematic ramp-up of production since September 2015 at its site located in Sotkamo. During the first half of 2017, nickel production already exceeded the total production volume of 2016. In addition to increasing production, the company has also done a lot of development work.
After the biggest ramp-up efforts, Terrafame continues to stabilise and improve the overall efficiency of its operations. Based on this, the company has today, on Monday 28 August 2017, invited all personnel groups to cooperation negotiations.
“During the strongest ramp-up phase, Terrafame has employed more than 1,300 people, working for Terrafame and our partner companies, at the mining site. We will continue to be a significant employer and driver of economy in Kainuu in the future, as well. However, we are now moving to a phase of stabilised industrial operation. In this new situation, we must explore how to complete the ramp-up as cost-efficiently as possible,” says Joni Lukkaroinen, CEO of Terrafame Ltd.
Terrafame employs over 660 permanent employees, of which approximately 490 employees are in the scope of the negotiations. The company estimates that the reduction need is at most 50 persons.
The aim of the cooperation negotiations between the company and the personnel is to find a solution for adapting personnel resources to better match the needs of the last stage of the ramp-up. The negotiations will begin a week after the invitation has been sent, and they are estimated to last at least until mid-October.
Terrafame will announce the result of the negotiations after they have been concluded.
