Toni Kohonen to be Terrafame’s sponsored player

Sotkamon Jymy, playing pesäpallo, the Finnish variety of baseball, in Finland’s top league, has chosen pitcher Toni Kohonen as Terrafame’s sponsored player for 2018–2019. He is one of the most successful pesäpallo players of all time in Finland.

Being from Sotkamo, Terrafame has been supporting Jymy ever since the company was founded, and is one of the team’s key sponsors. Terrafame also offers its personnel tickets for Jymy’s home games to root for their team for Finnish championship.

“Pesäpallo is a tough sport with similarities to Terrafame’s operations. Our production processes from the open pit up to product delivery requires our personnel team to perform great individual feats and also the ability to see the big picture and work together,” says Terrafame’s CEO Joni Lukkaroinen.

The Sotkamon Jymy team has chosen itself who the sponsored player should be. Lukkaroinen values the choice of Kohonen and believes that the home crowd’s support will be even greater as a result.

“The pitcher is the linchpin of any team, helping the outfielders to perform at their best. This role has similarities with Terrafame, which is a key player locally and an important export company. I think it’s appropriate that Terrafame’s sponsored player is the pitcher,” says Toni Kohonen.

Pesäpallo is a very popular sport in Kainuu region, and Jymy’s home games attract large crowds to their legendary home ground Hiukka every summer.
